How to change your name with AEP (AEP Ohio, Appalachian Power and others)
Married or divorced and updating your accounts? Here's how AEP takes a name change, from its own help page.
In person or by phone only. AEP is one of the few that won't change your name online. Bring your documents when you go.
AEP's steps
Call your AEP company's Customer Operations Center to change the name on the account (AEP Ohio: 800-672-2231). The online "Change Profile Name" only changes your login.
Have these ready
- A copy of your marriage certificate, divorce decree or court order (most companies ask for one).
- Your updated driver's license or ID, if you have it. Social Security comes first, then the DMV.
- Your account number, and the name the account is in now.
Let Sasha handle the letters
Sasha writes and signs your name change letter for AEP and every other company on your list, with your certificate attached. It also keeps track of who's done. The checklist is free.
Checked against AEP's own page in October 2026. Companies change their process; confirm on their site or by phone before you send anything. Sasha isn't affiliated with AEP.
