How to change your name with M&T Bank
Married or divorced and updating your accounts? Here's how M&T Bank takes a name change, from its own help page.
In person or by phone only. M&T Bank is one of the few that won't change your name online. Bring your documents when you go.
M&T Bank's steps
Visit a branch (call ahead for an appointment) with your ID and marriage certificate or other legal document. The change takes effect right away; new cards arrive in about a week.
Have these ready
- A copy of your marriage certificate, divorce decree or court order (most companies ask for one).
- Your updated driver's license or ID, if you have it. Social Security comes first, then the DMV.
- Your account number, and the name the account is in now.
Let Sasha handle the letters
Sasha writes and signs your name change letter for M&T Bank and every other company on your list, with your certificate attached. It also keeps track of who's done. The checklist is free.
