How to change your name with Bank of America
Married or divorced and updating your accounts? Here's how Bank of America takes a name change, from its own help page.
In person or by phone only. Bank of America is one of the few that won't change your name online. Call 800-432-1000 or visit, and bring your documents.
Bank of America's steps
Visit a financial center with photo ID and your certificate or decree. Joint owners have to come with you. No branch nearby? Call for other options.
Have these ready
- A copy of your marriage certificate, divorce decree or court order (most companies ask for one).
- Your updated driver's license or ID, if you have it. Social Security comes first, then the DMV.
- Your account number, and the name the account is in now.
Let Sasha handle the letters
Sasha writes and signs your name change letter for Bank of America and every other company on your list, with your certificate attached. It also keeps track of who's done. The checklist is free.
Checked against Bank of America's own page in October 2026. Companies change their process; confirm on their site or by phone before you send anything. Sasha isn't affiliated with Bank of America.
