How to change your name with Capital One (bank account)
Married or divorced and updating your accounts? Here's how Capital One takes a name change, from its own help page.
Capital One's steps
Update Social Security first. Then visit a branch, or call and ask for a secure upload link. You need a document with your new name and a W-9 signed by hand.
Have these ready
- A copy of your marriage certificate, divorce decree or court order (most companies ask for one).
- Your updated driver's license or ID, if you have it. Social Security comes first, then the DMV.
- Your account number, and the name the account is in now.
Let Sasha handle the letters
Sasha writes and signs your name change letter for Capital One and every other company on your list, with your certificate attached. It can even print and mail it to Capital One for you: no printer, no stamps. It also keeps track of who's done. The checklist is free.
Checked against Capital One's own page in October 2026. Companies change their process; confirm on their site or by phone before you send anything. Sasha isn't affiliated with Capital One.
