How to change your name with Discover
Married or divorced and updating your accounts? Here's how Discover takes a name change, from its own help page.
In person or by phone only. Discover is one of the few that won't change your name online. Bring your documents when you go.
Discover's steps
Call the number on the back of your card. Discover accounts are moving to Capital One, so some online changes may be paused.
Have these ready
- A copy of your marriage certificate, divorce decree or court order (most companies ask for one).
- Your updated driver's license or ID, if you have it. Social Security comes first, then the DMV.
- Your account number, and the name the account is in now.
Let Sasha handle the letters
Sasha writes and signs your name change letter for Discover and every other company on your list, with your certificate attached. It also keeps track of who's done. The checklist is free.
