How to change your name with BMO (U.S.)
Married or divorced and updating your accounts? Here's how BMO takes a name change, from its own help page.
In person or by phone only. BMO is one of the few that won't change your name online. Call 1-888-340-2265 or visit, and bring your documents.
BMO's steps
BMO's account rules say to tell them promptly when your name changes, but it doesn't post online steps. Call or visit a branch; bring your marriage certificate or decree and your new ID.
Have these ready
- A copy of your marriage certificate, divorce decree or court order (most companies ask for one).
- Your updated driver's license or ID, if you have it. Social Security comes first, then the DMV.
- Your account number, and the name the account is in now.
Let Sasha handle the letters
Sasha writes and signs your name change letter for BMO and every other company on your list, with your certificate attached. It also keeps track of who's done. The checklist is free.
