TurboTax's steps
The name on your return must match Social Security's records exactly, or the IRS rejects it. Update Social Security first; if that isn't done yet, file with the name on your current card.
Have these ready
- A copy of your marriage certificate, divorce decree or court order (most companies ask for one).
- Your updated driver's license or ID, if you have it. Social Security comes first, then the DMV.
- Your account number, and the name the account is in now.
