How to change your name with The General
Married or divorced and updating your accounts? Here's how The General takes a name change, from its own help page.
In person or by phone only. The General is one of the few that won't change your name online. Call 1-844-328-0306 or visit, and bring your documents.
The General's steps
The General doesn't post steps for changing the policyholder's name. Call customer service and ask what proof they need; a phone change can carry a fee.
Have these ready
- A copy of your marriage certificate, divorce decree or court order (most companies ask for one).
- Your updated driver's license or ID, if you have it. Social Security comes first, then the DMV.
- Your account number, and the name the account is in now.
Let Sasha handle the letters
Sasha writes and signs your name change letter for The General and every other company on your list, with your certificate attached. It also keeps track of who's done. The checklist is free.
